....Warum Projektmanagement?

Projektarbeit bestimmt immer stärker den Arbeitsalltag von Mitarbeiter(inne)n deutscher Hochschulen. Dabei steigen sowohl die Komplexität der Projekte als auch die Anforderungen externer Mittelgeberinnen zusehends. Ob die Teilnahme am Qualitätspakt Lehre, die Einführung eines Campus-Management-Systems, Hochschulentwicklungsplanung oder Optimierungen in der Verwaltung – viele Tätigkeiten sind nur in echten Projektstrukturen gut zu bewältigen, weil unterschiedliche Kompetenzen und Verantwortungsbereiche betroffen sind und diese zusammenarbeiten müssen. Unterschiedliche Ebenen und Hierarchien müssen einbezogen und partizipative Prozesse berücksichtigt werden. Hochschulspezifische Umstände wie unklare Aufgabenzuordnungen von Mitarbeiter(inne)n, Schnittstellenproblematiken sowie Abgrenzungsverhalten zwischen Leitung, Fakultäten und Verwaltung erhöhen häufig zusätzlich die Anforderungen an Mitarbeiter(innen), die mit Projekten befasst sind. 

DIDAKTISCHES KONZEPT DES WORKSHOPS

Alle von mir durchgeführten Workshops sind praxis- und dialogorientiert, erfahrungsbasiert und partizipativ ausgerichtet. Sie vermitteln einerseits das grundlegende Handwerkszeug für ein gutes und erfolgreiches Projektmanagement und widmen sich andererseits dezidiert den besonderen Bedingungen an Hochschulen.

..Why project management in higher education?

As universities globally continue to professionalize themselves, project work becomes increasingly widespread in higher education: Be it in applying for large-scale government grants, the introduction of IT systems for campus management, large-scale research projects, or in reorganizing operational processes in university administration – any significant projects require the successful collaboration of different departments and experts, recognizing time and resource constraints. Such endeavors can only succeed if they are skillfully managed: Stakeholders at different organizational levels and hierarchies need to be involved. Work processes need to be synchronized. Lines of authority need to be respected. Diverging priorities of partners need to be negotiated and aligned.

In addition to these challenges, project management in higher education institutions needs to take into account their specific nature, such as often-unclear assignment of responsibility within the university, or the tensions between university leadership, teaching staff and administration which emerge from their particular role and socialization history.

The proposed training in project management is intended to provide higher education professionals with the tools and practices necessary to successfully initiate, plan, implement and conclude projects in and with higher education institutions.

Concept of the Workshop

The entire workshop is designed as a practice-based training which builds on participants’ prior experiences and combines the key concepts and techniques with hands-on application. The training is designed to develop applied the skills, techniques, instruments, but also the attitudes necessary to successfully implement projects under the specific conditions of higher education. ....

....Daher werden die verschiedenen Phasen des Projektmanagements während des gesamten Workshops anhand von Fallbeispielen aus der Hochschulpraxis bearbeitet. Die Auswahl der Fallbeispielen für den konkreten Workshop geschieht auf Grundlage einer im Vorfeld des Workshops durchgeführten Umfrage unter den angemeldeten Teilnehmer(innen) entsprechend ihrer Interessens- und Arbeitsschwerpunkte. Auf Wunsch können zudem auch reale Projekte der Teilnehmer(innen) thematisiert werden. In dem Grad, zu dem die Teilnehmerinnen bereits in Projekten mitarbeiten, diese leiten oder koordinieren, ist der gelenkte Erfahrungsaustausch wichtiger Bestandteil des Workshops. Innerhalb des Workshops soll anhand von Fallbeispielen zudem die Nutzung von Projektmanagementsoftware ausprobiert werden können. Hierzu kann eine an der Hochschule vorhandene Software (MS Project, Inloox o.ä.) oder die OpenSource-Software „ganttproject“ genutzt werden. 

..Throughout the training, participants work on realistic case-studies from universities worldwide to master the four phases of project management. The selection of the specific case studies will be decided upon based on the results of a pre-workshop survey-based needs-assessment among participants. Based on the results, the contents of the workshop will therefore be custom-tailored to its participants. Depending on the degree to which participants are already experienced with working or managing projects, real-life cases can be analyzed and discussed. The didactical concept of the workshop explicitly welcomes and encourages an active participation and exchange of experience among the participants. Within the workshop, participants will have the opportunity to experiment working common project management software such as MS Project, Inloox or the open source-tool „ganttproject“....
